Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

Special Religious Education (SRE) programs are available at Springwood High School and are run by authorised volunteers of approved religious persuasions. On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter.

Below is the list of approved SRE programs provided on a joint basis by Springwood and Winmalee Interdenominational Scripture in High Schools (SWISH). Additional details of SRE programs on offer at the school can be obtained from SRE providers. Contact details of SRE program coordinators can be provided by the school if required.

  • Combined Protestant SRE
  • Anglican Diocese of Sydney

If you have any concerns about your child’s participation in the SRE program please contact the school. The school has allocated time on Friday afternoon from 12noon where students are given an exit pass to attend, as it is halfway through a lesson before lunch. Students who participate in SRE explore the Bible and discover the good news and what it means to be a Christian in our world today. Lessons are age-appropriate, fun and inclusive.

For more information on the SRE curriculum, please view the curriculum overview: https://whysre.com.au/sre-curriculum/cep-curriculum-overview

Students not attending SRE will participate in alternative meaningful activities. This includes revision, private study and consolidation of learning.

For more information, please see the SWISH CEA website:

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
